The Pak 38 anti-tank gun was first produced in 1939. It was used as a self-propelled gun as well as an anti-tank gun.
Light alloys were used to create the gun carriage, making the Pak 38 easy to handle.
The Pak 38 had a tungsten-cored AP40 round that could penetrate 4.7inches (120mm) of armor at 550 yards (500m)
It was the only weapon that could take out Soviet T-34 tanks.
However, not enough units could be manufactured to keep up with the demands of the German fronts.
As World War II, progressed, the stock of light alloys became depleted, and what was left was used for building aircraft.
In addition, there was a short supply of the AP40 ammunition that the Pak 38 required.
The Pak 38 was not able to keep up with increases in tank armor.
Germany stopped producing the Pak 38 in 1943.
