The M40A2 recoilless rifle is a variant of the 106mm M40 recoilless rifle.

It is a light weapon, weighing 485lbs (220kg) and having an overall length of 133.86inches (3.4m).

The M40A2 recoilless rifle was used by US Marines during the Vietnam War, as its small size meant that it could be carried over rough terrain when necessary.

While the M40A2 is usually mounted on a 4×4 vehicle, it can be towed on a two-wheeled carriage.

In practice, the anti-tank weapon has an effective range against MBTs of about 1093 yards (1000m).

Realistically, the M40A2 can achieve a fire rate of one round per minute.

The M40A2 recoilless rifle has a full 360-degree traverse.

Muzzle velocity is 1010ft/s (308m/s).

A 0.5inch (12.7mm) spotting rifle is used to aim the weapon.

Another variant of the M40 recoilless rifle, the M40A1, is thought to currently be being used by pro-Gadaffi forces in Libya.
